In January 2012, ALNAP will be holding its 27th Annual Meeting in Chennai exploring The Urban Challenge: Adapting humanitarian response to a changing world (click here for the background paper).

This meeting, jointly organised with World Vision India, AIDMI and SEEDS India, will feature keynote presentations from Robert Piper, United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nepal, and Dan Lewis, the Chief of UN HABITAT’s Disaster and Post-Conflict Section. The agenda also includes presentations by expert speakers on emerging best practices in urban preparedness, response, recovery and reconstruction; a practical scenario exercise; and sessions for peer learning and exchange. The event will bring together ALNAP members from NGOs, the UN, donor organisations, the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, the academic community, and also representatives of national disaster management authorities from around the globe for these discussions.

The third day of the meeting, ALNAP’s Full Members’ day, will feature a ‘Quality and Accountability stocktake’ looking at a variety of approaches to improving humanitarian action that have been taken over recent years – a timely opportunity to see where the system has got to and what the future might look like.
