Webinar: Exploring protection challenges in humanitarian logistics

Regardless of how it is defined, logistics makes up a major part of humanitarian action. On the face of it, it may seem that logistics, supply chain management, and related support operations only indirectly impact people affected by crisis – with functions such as transport, tracking and tracing, customs clearance, and warehousing of goods conducted separately from other humanitarian work. However, in practice, the situation is often different, and logisticians are often among the first to arrive in a crisis situation, coming into direct contact with affected people, and facing situations where protection concerns are critical. Moreover, even the nominally separate support functions of humanitarian logistics may have protection implications that have yet to be identified.

On 3 July, PHAP in partnership with the Humanitarian Logistics Association (HLA) will be organizing a webinar exploring the topic of protection in humanitarian logistics, aiming to clarify key protection issues that should be of direct concern with respect to humanitarian logistics and related functions. In the webinar, we will hear from logistics and protection professionals who will share their experiences from humanitarian operations where protection concerns have been apparent. This interactive webinar will also be an opportunity for participants to share their own experiences in this area, pose follow-up questions to the panelists, and help shed light on what the next steps should be.
