Amman | Issue roundtables on displacement, forced migration and international law
20181114 - 20181115
Please be aware that this is a past event.
Directly following each edition of the core training, PHAP is offering a series of issue roundtables looking in greater detail at specific topics in a discussion-based setting over one and a half days.
Registrants for the core training will be asked to identify the most challenging issues they face – many of which will be cross-cutting. The issue roundtables following the core training will serve as a venue to explore a selection of these issues in more depth. Examples of issues raised thus far include, for example, pushbacks on land and at sea, criminalisation of irregular entry and related border security offenses, extraterritorial processing of asylum claims, security vetting, immigration-related detention practices, and various issues related to the blurring of legal categories.
As participation in the issue roundtables require a good understanding of relevant norms and practices, the core training is as a general rule considered a prerequisite. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis, for individuals who already have a strong background on legal and policy frameworks and related practices in the field of migration and displacement, and who wish to attend only the issue roundtables.
The course is designed for experienced professionals who have been exposed to the challenges of protection issues in humanitarian crisis situations – whether from a practical or policy perspective – and is crafted to accommodate mixed groups of participants working under different types of mandates, including staff of NGOs, components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, the UN and other international organisations, donor agencies, and other governmental entities.
