Local communities, as the recipients of aid, remain the focus and most visible resource to aid workers throughout the cycle of emergency onset, relief, and recovery.

The Community Participation and Mobilization in Emergency Response course will provide students with an advanced knowledge of community structures, participatory models of intervention and the technical requirements and skills necessary to provide aid and services in humanitarian emergencies.

Participants will learn that in every stage, aid workers must establish a relationship with the local communities and work within, not outside, of them.

Students will be exposed to skills and best practices for cooperating with and working alongside communities affected by crises, whether when negotiating with national authorities; building or rehabilitating basic infrastructure, or providing life-sustaining services.
