The Humanitarian Logistics Association (HLA) is inviting expressions of interest to participate in an important pre-AidEx Brussels event: Exploring the linkages between international aid organisations and grassroots volunteer groups. Experience from the European migration crisis.
Date: Tuesday, 15 November 2016
Time: 11:30 to 17:00
Host: MSF Belgium
Venue: Training, Innovation & Development Centre – Espace Bruno Corbé (EBC) Médecins Sans Frontières, Rue Dieudonné Lefevre 2, 1020 Bruxelles
Due to recent growing humanitarian needs within Europe and the rise of local volunteer response groups, and in line with this year’s AidEx theme ‘Localisation’, HLA will run a workshop in partnership with our EU Aid Volunteers Initiative (EUAVI) consortium.
A notable feature of the humanitarian response to the movement of refugees and migrants in Europe over the past 12 months has been the scale and scope of the support provided by local volunteer groups. While humanitarian aid organisations have often been slow to respond, local volunteers were able to launch their own action very quickly. However, there were often gaps in the provision of assistance. One of the main challenges experienced was the disconnection between international aid organisations and volunteer groups.
From an operations perspective, the event will aim to reflect on this experience, exchange information and collect learning that will be shared by HLA and our EUAVI partners to inform future good practice in humanitarian volunteering. Your attendance and participation will be a valuable contribution to this increasingly relevant topic in humanitarian aid.
Please, register your interest in attending by contacting: email@example.com.
